By the industry’s own admission, cement-making accounts for some 5% of the world’s emissions of greenhouse gases—twice the amount attributed to aviation.

From the year-end Economist. While this may be old news for some, the article has a nice overview of the cement industry’s GHG problem and competing voluntary/regulatory attempts to address it.
